3 Notti D'Amore

a propos:
Four Flies launches its new jazz series dedicated to top Italian soundtracks from the 1 9 6 0 ’ s w i t h t h i s extraordinary work by Piero Piccioni: 3 NOTTI D’AMORE (3 Nights of Love). Originally released in 1964 on CAM – CMS series, this record had a very limited pressing, and is considered one of the grooviest and jazziest scores composed by the legendary Italian maestro. Thanks to the support of an exceptional big band, Piccioni shapes a unique cool style, supported by a truly exotic and percussive rhythm section (“Come on Rome”, “Just For Fun”), full of charming flute phrases (“The Easy Way”) and baritone sax passages (“Pop’s Lolly”), and beautifully played by the two great soloists, Gino Marinacci and Gato Barbieri. Piccioni himself plays the piano on all the tracks, and created a magnificent, dynamic and sophisticated soundtrack. Pressed for the first time in its integrity, this soundtrack includes some missing numbers from the original record, and presents others in their extended full versions, such as “Sally’s Surf” (compiled in the essential EasyTempo series). A superb album featuring marvelous tracks – from bossa to pop-jazz – this original soundtrack also features a couple of tracks by Carlo Rustichelli; two dreamy, sensually vocalized melodies. One of Piccioni’s lesser known masterpieces that truly embodies that golden time period, and a real beauty for every 60s jazz lover.

Kakadu (Lost Tapes: 1977-1978)

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Crash is one of the most interesting Jazz-Rock ensembles from behind the Iron Curtain. Originating from Poland, the band performed with Sonny Rollins in the 1970s and won awards at the largest European festivals. Kakadu consists of tracks never previously released on vinyl. Being an incredible fusion of Jazz-Rock and Funk, the album is a display of the band’s amazing sound in its probably best years. Totally absorbing percussion, piercing sound of the trumpet, saxophone, guitar and keyboards, accompanied by extremely characteristic vocals in one of the songs. The recordings from 1977-78 were found in the vast archives of Polskie Radio, precisely copied from original tapes and remastered exclusively for 180 gram vinyl. Limited pressing of 500. An amazing adventure.-The album includes tracks never previously released on vinyl-The band performed with Sonny Rollins in the 1970s and won awards at the largest European festivals-A fusion of Jacc-Rock and Funk music •Limited pressing of 500 copies

Reasons

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
ORGONE is one of the most exciting bands in the new generation of funk bands; led by the powerhouse vocals of Adryon de León, ORGONE recalls such legendary groups as Rufus and Sly & The Family Stone at their best. Their new album Reasons illuminates a band hitting its stride, capturing the raw power and refined sensibilities that defines ORGONE.From the a cappella opening of “All Good Things” to the dance floor filler “Easy Love,” Reasons packs a punch. Vocal harmonies channeling late 70s Fleetwood Mac to synth lines evoking Bernie Worrell's involvement in the Talking Heads, 'Reasons' brings in a new set of influences on ORGONE's 10th studio album while maintaining their classic analog sound.De León is front and center on Reasons, and she does not disappoint evoking the deep soulfulness of Chaka Khan and the bedroom sweetness of Minnie Ripperton. Her versatile vocal performance firmly places her in the top echelon of soul singers today.Reasons is another solid step in a long and storied career. ORGONE’s accolades are too long to list in entirety. The well-traveled band has released albums on Ubiquity, Shanachie, and Colemine Records and served as the studio band on hits like Alicia Key’s “Teenage Love Affair” and Cee Lo Green’s Grammy-winning “Fool For You.”

All My Relations

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Daptone Records is overjoyed to present All My Relations- the debut solo album from long-time Dap-Kings saxophonist, Cochemea Gastelum. Cochemea’s electro-sax leads an ensemble of percussive giants (members of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Antibalas) on a psychedelic, spiritual journey, exploring his ancestral roots through melody and rhythm. As a body of work, it is an acknowledgement of oneness and harmony with all forms of life: people, animals, insects, plants, trees, and even rocks, rivers, mountains and valleys. It celebrates the sublime beauty of existence and beginnings of such. Some of the tunes were drawn from memory, imagined from a time and place Cochemea has never been, such as “Sonora" (the home of his Yaqui ancestors), and “Mescalero" (an Apache tribe from the South Central region of Mexico - ancestors of his great-grandmother). Others were born from the Musical impression of ritual, like “Mitote" (an ancient, secular round dance of the Aztecs and other tribes of the Sierra Madre Occidental - which in certain cultures can be associated with Peyote ritual). The track “Asatoma" (The Asatome) is an ancient prayer from India. In Sanskrit, it prays for guidance to grow from darkness to light, to distinguish the real from the unreal, and to be guided from death of the physical to the immortality of the Spirit. It is a celebration of life. The musicians on the record also bring a piece of themselves and their heritage, creating a cultural cornucopia of sonic expression that allows Cochemea's vision and spirituality to flourish. All My Relations, in a sense, is a musical prayer to the world to help recognize our one true source, our shared identity. We are one.- Translucent Teal LP available- Debut album from long standing Dap-Kings saxophonist.- Performed / recorded with Amy Winehouse, The Roos, Beck & Antibalas.- 2019 touring planned

Soul Explosion

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
The Daktaris is a well-disciplined army of two hundred African Bull Elephants marching relentlessly up your business to the beat from Funky Drummer. Or so began the liner notes on the original pressing of this album.Truth is often stranger than fiction. In 1998 Desco Records—a precursor to Daptone and Soul Fire records—released The Daktaris’ Soul Explosion, ostensibly as a reissue of an unearthed Nigerian LP from the seventies. Though it’s now common knowledge that the story was a bit of a hoax, the record’s significance as a seminal part of the Afrobeat and afro-funk renaissance of the last two decades cannot be denied. The roots of the Budos Band, Antibalas, and uncountable others can be traced back to this enigmatic afro-funk release. Now, two decades later, Daptone has remastered the album from the original tapes, including a bonus track that had previously only been available on a 45, and featuring extensive all new liner notes by Bosco Mann telling the bizarre true story behind the Daktaris sessions.- FULLY REMASTERED, including new bonus track, “In the Middle.”-Extensive new liner notes by BOSCO MANN explaining the real story behind The Daktaris.-Features members of The DAP-KINGS and ANTIBALAS.-Features JOJO KUO (drummer for FELA KUTI) on vox and percussion.-Originally released on DESCO RECORDS in the 1998, has been out of print for years.-The spirit of the late, great Fela Kuti runs through The Daktaris’ Soul Explosion. - Jazz Times

Dance Of The Cosmos

photo:
a propos:
Ras G’s Dance of the Cosmos is the heralded beatsmith’s first foray dedicated to the “4 on the floor” tabernacle of Chicago House . Deeply ingrained in the music is the message of Black Diaspora. As we sonically time travel in typical Ras G and The Afrikan Space Program fashion Dance of the Cosmos takes us on a 30 minute journey way beyond the ionosphere.
