His very last name, Dinleten, means 'listen'. So back to Anatolia once more and hear the unhinged guitar and electric baglama behind Turkish psychedelia's charismatic singer Ersen. He was discovered by Cem, was connected to Mogollar and 3 Hür-El, and even switched backing bands with Cem before finally hitting the charts with his own group Dadaslar. There's loads of B-sides and burly moves on these 70s singles which make his second LP, released in 1978. Wicked funk drums, fuzzy guitars,organs and the poweful voice of Ersen. Includes "Zalim", the killer psych-funk track made famous by the Gaslamp Killer's edit.

Debut album, released in 1977, by one by one of Anatolian Rock's most sheerly talented vocalists.Turkish psych-rock with some amazing funk drums and fuzzed out guitars. Ersen spent time in Mogollar, 3 Hür-El, and Cem Karaca's Kardaslar before cementing his reputation as the frontman of Dadaslar. Indonesian concern Midnight Runners know a thing about quirky, utterly funky boogie and disco variations played out with real world heart and soul. This third album Rare Essence is the most complete look into the world of bandleader Munir Septiandry to date, not least when reveling in the heavyweight groove of "Pyramids Of The Moon". There's a lighter disco touch to "Paraswara Harmoni", but equally a cosmic force guides the track skywards in a manner that calls to mind the sweetest 70s library music. "Cyber Crimes" is a sassier affair that makes its club intentions clearer, but at every turn Midnight Runners display a keen proficiency for party music that you can equally chill to.

Awesome Tapes From Africa continues to unearth must-hear gems for a wider audience with its reissue of South African bubblegum music stars Umoja's 1988 EP 707.Bubblegum music was defined by its call-and-response vocals and catchy synthesizer-led melodies. Helmed by 'Om' Alec Khaoli, who turned to the pure pop form as an escape from apartheid in the mid-80s, Umoja's EP 707 was a chart-topping, radio-friendly hit for the genre in 1988 that achieved double-platinum status.Umoja translates as 'oneness' or 'unity' in Swahili. 'Bubblegum music was about escape', explains Khaoli in the press release. 'If you had grown up in South Africa at the time, there was nothing more in your life than oppression. It was even in your dreams. Anything that was a way out was welcome 'When this music was playing everyone just wanted to dance, just have a good time.'

Impossible to find Spiritual Jazz / Funk / Groove / Psych rarity from France, 1973. Rupture was born when famous French songwriter Boris Bergman (France Gall, Dalida, etc) decided to record a conceptual album about the history of Israel. He approached ace drummer and singer Sylvain Krief (Airto Fogo, Michel Fugain, Aznavour, Clark Terry, Bud Powell, etc) and soon, other musicians joined: Jean-François Jenny-Clark (Don Cherry, Steve Lacy, etc) on bass, Georges Locatelli (Total Issue) on guitar, Jean-Pierre Mas (piano, organ, guitar, vocals…) In resume, Rupture was a kind of super-group featuring some of the best musicians from the Euro jazz / progressive / fusion scene. It also included collaborations by Michel Fugain and Nicole Croisille.The album was recorded over a period of three months and the result was released as a very limited private pressing with help from the Futura label. Arranged by Sylvain Krief and Jean-Pierre Mas, “Israel Suite” included a side-long suite on side A and shorter songs on Side B.
