Legendary Turkish psych innovators Moğollar grace the Artone Studios in Haarlem for a masterclass in the original Anadolu psych roots, cutting a compendium of their rawest hits and most-wanted psychedelic rock classics – including the J.Dilla-sampled ‘Haliç’te Güneşin Batışı’ – for the latest edition of Night Dreamer’s essential Direct-to-Disc series. For this Night Dreamer session, Moğollar spent two days in the Artone studios, recording sides A and B on the first day, and C and D on day two. With BaBa ZuLa’s Murat Ertel adding contemporary sonic punch behind the boards, the band revisited their most renowned hits to lay down energised new versions, and dusted off some of the most sought-after cuts from their enormous catalogue. The result is a showcase set by a band that are one of true pioneers in global psychedelic rock, and a masterclass in the true roots of the Anadolu psych sound: fuzzed-out, committed, and straight from the source.

Get On A Plane/You're Just Yourself

auteur:

The label say "The second release on Boogie on the Mainline Records is a strictly limited 12" with two songs by German band, Upstairs, from 1980. Side A features an exceptional track from their highly sough after “It’s Hard To Get In The Showbiz” album called “Get On A Plane”. The song is still totally under the radar in the collector’s scene and serves us with a smooth uptempo groove, a super mellow AOR vibe and a catchy chorus! The exclusive 12" mix has an extended ending to give you more of the final “Copa Cabana” chorus. The flip side contains the instant classic “You’re Just Yourself”, a track which could already be found on the “Boogie on the Mainline” double vinyl compilation. Giving it more space, power and loudliness on 45 rpm with a new master we hope this perfect soulful tune will get even more spins in this “audiophile” edition."

To The Westcoast/My Fate

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Loud pressed vinyl single featuring the best track from the group's 1979 album plus an unreleased take of the track ''My Fate'' on the flip.. Very smooth German AOR..Limited to 350 copies and released in a beautiful picture sleeve which shows the original LP artwork.Ara Pacis, a group from the island Föhr in the North Sea, was originally founded in 1971. Initially influenced by blues and classic rock by The Rolling Stones, The Who, and the like, they were also inspired by bands such as Steely Dan as well as the German/British group Lake. However, Ara Pacis created a style of their own when their privately pressed an self-distributed “To the Westcoast” LP was released in 1979. The songs were mainly characterized by two-part guitar riffs by Töns Brautlecht-Deppe and Wolfgang Schiffner, who also were the core songwriters of the band. The freshly remastered single starts with the title track “To the Westcoast”. Due to its sunny and yacht-y vibe it is easily amongst the best and most authentic tunes out of the “Westcoast rock” genre recorded in Germany. With family connections in California, lead singer Töns Brautlecht-Deppe was able to create and capture the feeling of the Pacific sea shore just perfectly. The single is backed with a revised studio version of “My Fate”. The track is also featured on the album but the version presented here on the 7" vinyl is an unreleased, even quite funky and more powerful take. It was recorded in 1981 at the Rüssl studio in Hamburg where Brautlecht had just started to work as an engineer. As the "To the Westcoast" LP was released during a time when styles like New Wave, Synth Pop and Punk became popular in Germany and the interest in organic and soulful rock declined, Ara Pacis’ debut remained relatively unnoticed until today and even the Krautrock collector’s scene does not seem to be fully aware of this hard to find gem yet of which only 1000 copies were originally pressed. The band is still kept in good memory by their fans as a quite legendary live act and although they officially split in 1982, the group still served their fan base with revival concerts in 1990 and 2002 plus a website with full band story and lots of images from the early days.

180 gram Vinyl, Gatefold Sleeve reissue of the classic 1969 album featuring Motorhead's Lemmy. Packaged with their previously unreleased 7" single 'Horse/Back Door Man' as listed in Record Collector, Plus a free Download Code.Sam Gopal took up the tabla in Malaysia at the age of 7, before coming to study music in Britain in 1962. By the mid 1960’s, Indian music was exerting a huge influence on Western rock, most notably on the Beatles (with Indian influences all over ‘Revolver’ and ‘Sergeant Pepper’), but also on the Rolling Stones (exemplified by Brian Jones playing sitar on ‘Paint It, Black’) and the Moody Blues, for whom Justin Hayward played tabla and sitar on the ‘In Search Of The Lost Chord’ album. The time was right for a genuine exponent of Indian music to come to the fore. Sam Gopal put together his first group, ‘Sam Gopal’s Dream’ in 1966. They quickly became a feature of the psychedelic scene, playing at the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream at Alexandra Palace in 1967 and sharing stages with such giants as Pink Floyd, the Move and Jimi Hendrix. Indeed, Jimi jammed with them during a gig at the Speakeasy in January 1968. However, whilst successful live, the band went unrecorded, and disbanded shortly after, only to be reconstituted under the ‘Sam Gopal’ moniker, Sam being joined by Roger D’Elia on guitar, Phil Duke on bass and most famously, ex Jimi Hendrix roadie Ian ‘Lemmy’ Willis on vocals and guitar. Signed to the short-lived Stable label, songs for an album were quickly written, most of them by Lemmy, and the album was released in March 1969, beautifully packaged in a gatefold sleeve.Something of a classic of psychedelic acid rock, complete with fuzzed guitars, but rooted by its Eastern percussion, the album included one cover, a rocked up version of Donovan’s ‘Season Of The Witch’, whilst a projected single release included a version of Willie Dixon’s ‘Back Door Man’, which managed to be even heavier than the interpretation by the Doors on their first album, released two years earlier.‘You’re Alone Now’, one of the Lemmy-written songs on the album, became quietly influential, acting not only as a forerunner of Hawkwind’s seminal ‘The Watcher’, but having an intro that brings to mind Black Sabbath’s 1970 smash ‘Paranoid’.The album ends with undoubtedly the gentlest song of Lemmy’s career, the rather lovely ‘Yesterlove’, which has Lemmy’s vocal floating gently over a backing of tabla and acoustic guitar.Sadly, despite apparently having all the ingredients in place for success, this incarnation of ‘Sam Gopal’ proved to be no longer-lived than ‘Sam Gopal’s Dream’, and broke up not long after the release of this album

Ersen 2 - Ömür Biter Yollar Bitmez

auteur:

a propos:
His very last name, Dinleten, means 'listen'. So back to Anatolia once more and hear the unhinged guitar and electric baglama behind Turkish psychedelia's charismatic singer Ersen. He was discovered by Cem, was connected to Mogollar and 3 Hür-El, and even switched backing bands with Cem before finally hitting the charts with his own group Dadaslar. There's loads of B-sides and burly moves on these 70s singles which make his second LP, released in 1978. Wicked funk drums, fuzzy guitars, organs and the poweful voice of Ersen. Includes "Zalim", the killer psych-funk track made famous by the Gaslamp Killer's edit.

Debut album, released in 1977, by one by one of Anatolian Rock's most sheerly talented vocalists.Turkish psych-rock with some amazing funk drums and fuzzed out guitars. Ersen spent time in Mogollar, 3 Hür-El, and Cem Karaca's Kardaslar before cementing his reputation as the frontman of Dadaslar. His voice can range from one that has a soft edge (where he swallows his notes a bit, like a muezzin would), to growling belt-outs that could have fronted any 80s metal act.Ersen and his ever-changing backup band wore Slade haircuts and loud jackets with rainbow pants or silver platform shoes, and they grew their moustaches just as long as the Beatle bangs of their Western counterparts.Get the synth-wizz, funk breaks and fuzzed-out prog riffage behind one of Anatolian Rock's best vocalists!Original gatefold artwork, insert with liner notes by Angela Sawyer (Weirdo Records), remastered sound.

House On The Rock/Taste And See

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Brought to light in the 21st century on Psychemagik Magik Sunrise compilation in 2013, 'House On The Rock' is a shimmering, sophisticated groove with a strong West Coast sound .Songwriter Rob Mehl spend nearly three decades between Southern California and Hawaii, where the surf was too irresistible to leave behind for very long. He first moved to Oahu in 1958, a year before Hawai became the 50th state.'House On The Rock' has become a staple for summer-ready mixtapes from DJs and collectors, including multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee of the modern day Yacht Rock group Young Gun Silver Fox.The equally strong 'Taste And See' on the flipside provides the only lyrical reference to Hawai (mangos and papayas got flavors of their own) while remaining in line with Mehl's smooth West Coast vibe, he hired two of Chuck Mangione's colleagues for the recording, guitarist Steve O'Conner and horn player John Rekevics.Surprisingly, Mehl's original vision was to do an album of traditional Hawaiian music, but one day a friend told him he's too 'haole' and the idea just won't work. I was crushed, I was devastated. Taste And Sea, it was gonna be this mix of songs I'd written and kanaka wai wai (Hawaiian songs).

Mogollar

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Makam madness gives way to instrumental prog on this burned-out last album, released in 1976, by Turkey's Anadolu Pop heroes.Mogollar was the band that never had a singer attached for long, and yet even more than Baris or Erkin, they consciously highlighted what was different about the new sounds of the era.Incredible fusion of ancient Anatolian melodies and instruments with prog/psych including ocassional piercing fuzz guitar. Recommended to anyone into John Berberian, Devil's Anvil and vintage Turkish psych.Remastered sound. Includes liner notes by Angela Sawyer.
