Cockring D'Amore 001

photo:
a propos:
As Benedikt Rugar's superbly illustrated cover art for the recent CockTail D'Amore compilation Nothing Matters When We're Dancing proved, the Berlin collective proudly celebrate their status as a forum for Berlin's gay community to fully express themselves. With no releases on the label since that compilation arrived in January, Discodromo and DJ Boris have now unveiled a sister operation with a focus on edits under the wonderful name CockRing D'Amore. The debut release features contributions from label regular Massimiliano Pagliara, the unheralded Trent and founders Discodromo.

Take A Chance

photo:
a propos:
When it comes to producing deep, sophisticated, musically rich deep house, few are quite as capable as Kai Alce. Even so, there's still something extra-special about "Take A Chance", a thoroughly deep, soulful and lilting excursion full of rolling, African-influenced percussion, eyes-closed trumpet solos and warm, evocative vocals. Alce's hero Larry Heard provides the remixes, firstly under his given name (a typically deep, soulful and dreamy interpretation) and secondly as Mr Fingers. It's these "Ambient Acid" versions - built around restless, lopped electronics and the original's sublime trumpet - that really stand out. Brilliant from start to finish.

Peddlin Trax Vol 1: The Ringtone EP

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Hot Shot Sounds expand their remit with the launch of Peddlin Trax, a new house-orientated series to "keep you riding all day and into the night". First up is the legend of Amsterdam's house and hip-hop scene, the master Kid Sublime; anyone that follows his work on the Dopeness Galore label will agree this is a fine choice. "Real Hipsters Don't Dance" tees off in a Kenny Dope does b-boy house kind of vibe, whilst "That Ringtone Shit" is on more of a Dog In The Night tip. Down below, both "Get High" and "One For Ibiza" are pure house bliss, the sort of cuts you love to slip in the mix, whilst Kid Sublime heads off into buttery beatdown boogie territory on closing track "S.E.X.X.X. Met Jouwww". A strong start to the series.

Can't Explain EP

photo:
a propos:
With sounds as smooth as butter and grooves as juicy as jam fillings, Joe The Baker Gill has cooked up two fondant slabs of disco funk right here. There's a sweaty post-punk sheen to "Can't Explain" thanks its slap-happy bassline, fuzzy guitars and sultry vocals. "Mamba Gascoine", meanwhile, is a foggier, swampy slice of cosmic, dub-minded funk designed for the darker, heads-down moments. Remix-wise the ever-reliable Emperor Machine step forward with two epic, 10-minute workouts that explore every possible corner of Joe's jiggling, party-friendly groove.

Talking God

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Stunning new Balearica business from Swedish synth seducer Sasac; bubbling and deliciously slow and low tempo, the big synth washes shimmer over a subtle but sedate bassline. The three remixes are tailored to suit all shades of your soiree; Eddie C ups the tempo and doubles the length while maintaining the twinkle factor with relentless arpeggios. Alex Israel subverts proceedings with mischievous acid wriggles and a loose, latent funk around the beats. Benedek, meanwhile, takes us on a G-soul trip through the finest shades of 80s with the ultimate seduction version. Godly.

Join The Fookin Party!

auteur:

a propos:
Bastedos returns hosting two disco objects lovingly versioned by Nad. One side features the vocal talents of a mystery man with low riding balls imploring those gathered to hear him to 'join his party'...if you look at his backside, so to speak, you will head off down to sunny rainbow filled Castro for a happy sing along and dancing tune versioned from vaults of Moby Dick.

My Way Home

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Moodymann's Mahogani Music has been branching out over the last year or so, unexpectedly releasing music from artists around the globe, and from Europe of all places. While the label was usually associated with either Moody's own music or with producers in and around the Detroit area, the introduction of tracks by Dan Shake and now Obas Nenor have given the label a new edge. Nenor has previously released only one other EP, for the equally rejuvenated Strictly Rhythm out of NYC, but his cuts have already carved their own sound, their own identity. The limited - at least for now - two-tracker contains "My Way Home", a soulful, mid-tempo house burner for the summer haze, and the bouncier "Change Got To Come" - a funky club shaker that you could imagine Moody blasting out while sipping on a glass of cognac, and doing what he does best. Act fast.
