Tin Top (Kon Edit) RSD Special

photo:
a propos:
Kenny Mann Jr. & Liquid Pleasure Band - Tin Top (Pt. 1 & 2 and Kon Edit)Taken from 'Off Track Vol. 3', 'Tin Top' provides yet another reminder of why Kon is revered almost as much for his music knowledge and record collection as he is for his production skills. A party disco belter, Kon's subtle edit of 'Tin Top' simply can't miss on the dance-floor thanks its infectious groove and fun lyrics. In Pt.2, the story takes a darker turn, while the track just keeps on grooving.12” vinyl for the first time, exclusively for RSD 2016, strictly very limited!

Henry Stone's Miami Sound

photo:
a propos:
When Terry Kane - a sound engineer who was barely twenty years old at the time - built an 8-track recording studio above Henry Stone's office space in the Hialeah area of Miami, he probably never envisaged that he was laying the bedrock for a creative hub that would spawn over 25 gold records and over 100 million record sales worldwide. In the process, it would help to make Henry Stone a legend of American music. At one end of the spectrum, warehouse boy turned global superstar Harry Wayne Casey - better known as leader of K.C. & The Sunshine Band - was pumping out disco classics on a massive scale with ubiquitous airplay and sell-out shows. At the other, Rodney Matthew and his group Formula 1, were relying on the might of the T.K. distribution machine to propel them into the spotlight. As remarkable as their 1977 masterpiece on Du-Vern records was, it inevitably failed to have the seismic impact of The Sunshine Band's commercial dance pop.For every success story like T-Connection, with their firebrand funk-disco fusion and major label achievements, there were equally talented acts such as Stevens And Foster who also called on Stone's services to showcase their vision: judging by the scarcity of original copies of their self-written and produced modern soul jewel on Jerri Records, they also failed to reach beyond the Sunshine state, save for the rarified ears of collectors and connoisseurs. The sheer amount of records that came out of those modest premises at 495 SE 10th Court - about 8km from Downtown Miami (as the pink flamingo flies) - is mind boggling. With a huge roster of in-house labels as well as production and distribution deals, label boss Henry Stone was a passionate, busy, and exceptionally well connected man.Stone would nurture the early careers of the likes of million seller Betty Wright, as well as provide a platform for Milton Wright and Leno Phillips (her older brothers) to express their creativity. Clarence Reid (AKA Blowfly) and Willie Clark penned a raft of amazing tracks for acts such as Jimmy 'Bo' Horne and Little Beaver (AKA Willie Hale, who would also write a wealth of material for others), while T.K. in-house band Miami's own Robert Moore also released records on yet another T.K. imprint, Blue Candle. The music scene in Miami and indeed, Florida, at the time was fertile and moved quickly with the times, there were hit-makers and risk-takers, shining stars and those who never went far.As a living document of Henry Stone's remarkable legacy, the diverse styles and ideas coming out of Miami-Dade County and beyond, as well as a glimpse at the successes and near-misses achieved by a dazzling array of artists at the time, this collection serves as an invaluable insight.- Press Page with images and text: http://athensofthenorth.com/henry/- first press of the 2LP includes holy grail bonus 7"- Brand New - Thousand Years- 18 incredible tracks from the Man who invented Disco- Selected by Rare Disco connoisseurs Euan Fryer & Ian Wright- Release will tie in with up and coming award winning documentary 'The Record man' about Henry Stone and his music in Miami. Film to see worldwide cinema release this year: http://www.therecordmanmovie.com/- Almost all tracks on LP reissued for the first time- Extensive sleeve notes from record collector and writer Jason Stirland- Personal Sleeve Notes from Joe Stone (Henry Stone's Son)- Original Artwork by renowned Scottish graph artist Elph - http://akaelph.com/- Unseen personal photographs from the family

AOR Global Sounds Vol 2 1975 - 1983

photo:
a propos:
Following the recent acclaimed first edition of AOR Global Sounds compilation, DJ and producer Charles Maurice’s dug even deeper through international lost productions to create a sequel for this series. The result is AOR Global Sounds Vol.2, a new compilation made of 8 forgotten and rare tracks produced between 1975 and 1983 in all parts of the globe. At the end of the 70s, many artists over the world were deeply influenced by AOR’s famous stars such as Steely Dan and his classic Aja LP, looking to reach the same attention to sound production and details, and this specific Westcoast style mixing together Pop-Rock standards, with Soul (sometime Disco) and Jazz influences. From Renée Geyer Band in Australia, and Boban Petrovic in Ex-Yugoslavia, to Carol Ray Band in France, and Greg Yoder in Hawaï, Charles Maurice and Favorite Recordings built another hot selection of lost tracks clearly infused with this special AOR touch, in a Soulful and Disco way.Fully remastered from originals with the same attention to sound quality than in first edition, AOR Global Sounds Vol.2 (1975-1983, selected by Charles Maurice) is presented by Favorite Recordings in a deluxe vinyl version, housed in a tip-on jacket and as CD.

Off Track Volume One: The Bronx

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Continuing the BBE 20th anniversary celebrations, one of their most sought-after back-catalogue gems gets a long awaited repress. Even in this digital age, the beating heart of modern R&B and hip-hop is still vintage soul, funk and jazz. Modern producers, searching for music of integrity, continue to scour dusty racks of records for inspiration. What Kon and Amir have done is make their lives easier. The first collection in the five part “Off Track” series, contains 28 superb songs that you’ve probably never heard of. From a disco tribute to Muhammad Ali to a slice of soulful South African jazz, this is music for the connoisseur.Musical treasure-hunters by trade, Kon and Amir have spent the past twenty-five years excavating record bins finding gems to pierce ears with. Fortunately, everyone gets to share in the riches of their labor with the reissue of their first offering from the popular The “Off Track” Series. The Off Track series built on the successes of their highly respected “On Track” series. Unlike the “On track” series, which featured short snippets of samples and breaks, the Off Track double series features full versions of some the best and rarest audible gems in their entirety.

Everything That Looks Good

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
A blues funk masterpiece, Charles 'Bubba' Suggs released 3 (i think) 45's, this being his crowning achievement. First rediscovered and spun by legendary Essex collector Ian Wright after buying it blind (guessing it might be good as it looked rare and was unknown in the days before sound clips) on ebay. The record has remained extremely elusive due to it being a privately pressedClarksville, Tennessee45 and never nationally distributed. It has always been coveted across collectors and DJ and Collector circles and by myself, we are very proud to be bringing you a legit and rather tastly sounding reissue of this belter.

Feeling Good/Land Of Leaping No No (Ha-Ka-Cha)

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Produced by Philadelphia's Legendary Sonny Hopson, Santiago is Indeed Neftali Santiago from Mandrill who took a break from the band in 1975 and did a little experimenting, this came out of a 6 hour sessions in which 3 tracks were recording, two being on this 45 and is Santiago's only lead vocal to date . The band lasted a year in that time supporting Gil Scott Heron and The Ohio Players live. A two sided disco stormer with all the right ingredients, great guitar hook, solid horn section and great vocal.Essential Disco

Well Good

photo:
a propos:
Very Very rare slow burning funk45 recorded in 1973 Youngstown, Ohio. The band were local heros but never made it out of their locality, many still playing today. This one 45 (as far as i know) is a document to their skills. A killer funk 45 and a Grade A Sweet soul side. Line up is Mike Ohara on Guitar, Timbo on Bass, Reggie Manley on Sax, Chris Mcfarren on Trumpet, Norman Weatherly on Organ and Ben Powers Jr onDrums. This 45 is strictly limited to 500 copies.

Houston Talent Expo 82

photo:
a propos:
We are both proud and excited to present this highly sought after early 80's gem, originally created as a showcase project for young artists and composers by a community music organisation in Texas.Originally referred to as the 'Pop Music Lab', The Peoples' Workshop was formed in 1976 at Texas Southern University as a space for students to compose and perform, free from the constrains of Western classical music education.Swiftly gathering momentum, in 1980 the organisation was granted non-profit status and in 1983, moved off the TSU campus. The Workshop has since grown in size and scope, becoming the first Black-founded organisation to present shows in major performance venues around the Greater Houston area.Houston Talent Expo '82 features original compositions by members of The Peoples' Workshop, performed exclusively by musicians from Houston. The songs vary in style, but remain centered around gospel, funk and soul, music and lyrics with a powerful positive message. Many of the artists featured remain active today around the world, working with such acts as Alice Coltrane and The Charles Mingus Band among others.Houston Talent Expo '82 comprises a truly special collection of songs born from the struggle, true to the spirit of togetherness that underpins The Peoples' Workshop, written and performed by astonishing young talents.
