Les Editions Poutines Vol.1

photo:
a propos:
Dr Love is a veteran and key tastemaker / vinyl junkie on the Montreal scene and Laura Ingalls is a wandering French person of no specific sex who has recently landed in the French Canadian city and they both bonded over their love of anything Disco and Poutine, the main local dish which consists of potato, cheese, gravy and maybe sometimes added meat!Dr Love likes to dig but doesn't really produce while Laura Ingalls is not the most efficient digger and only seems to unearth old Folk and obscure Arabic music for their personal collection but has serious production skills.A1 - Laura Ingalls & Dr Love - Oh Mon Amour 6m 02s Very hard to find anything online about Idris Cheba who's real name is Serge Michael Bijaoui but this was a classic at the famous parisian disco Le Palace in the early 80's when it was released.A2 - Laura Ingalls & Dr Love - Weekend Mouillé 5m 42s This is an odd one, a jazz disco thing from the mid 70's, the producer Art Polhemus is actually more a rock producer and this track sticks out like a sore thumb in his discography.AA1 - Laura Ingalls & Dr Love - Ecoute Mon Coeur 5m 38s Peter Godwin who wrote this was in the band Metro and then went on to write and produce a lot of 80's new wave in France and across Europe, the original is definitely a guilty pleasure, both Dr Love and Laura Ingalls are closet Italo fans and even though this is from Belgium it bares all the cheesy Italo stigmata: big synths, big drums, english vocals with a bad accent!AA2 - Laura Ingalls & Dr Love - Soul Ma Coco 5m 48s This is a cover of Manu Dibango's Soul Makossa obviously, this version kept the melody and changed the lyrics slightly, Bayete is a South African band but the album was only released in Canada and Belgium.

Domu Edits

auteur:

a propos:
The Kat Edits label have scored a real coup here, licensing a pair of tweaks the legend Domu originally committed to a super-rare Japan only CD compilation for the ESP DJ Classics series back in 2009. Domu's always been a classy producer no matter what he turns his hands to and this pair of edits really do deserve to be preserved on the vinyl format - kudos to Kat! Up top, "Love Vibes" by The Emotions is given a slightly upwards pitch adjustment by Domu, with plenty of skilled filtering to boot, whilst the B-side sees Claudia Barry's classic 1978 jammer "Give it Up" is embellished with some extra raunch sauce.

HLB Edits

photo:
a propos:
The good folk at KAT Records deliver release no. 28 in the shape of a 4 tracker of tasty audio goodness covering Disco, Boogie, House and a rather splendid leftfield number that defies any form of categorisation! HLB (Henri le Blanc) is the man behind these and deffo one to keep close tabs on!The A side covers of the Disco / House element nicely with Thunder and straight up Boogie with Love's Comin'. Not direct edits, but reversions with elements added to spice up and delight. The flip is a hammond lead beauty with 2 tracks that lean slightly left of centre. Country Churches is a low slung Deep House chugger that really does tease all the way and we finish things off with the ace Touch My Soul… Elements of Broken Beat, Soul and Funk with a top vocal hook to set it off.

Dancefloor Meditations Vol 1

auteur:

a propos:
Kat Records once again come up trumps with a blazer of a 4 tracker for release number 27 on the ever consistent imprint.Kat debutant Inxxwel continues the run of releases in fine form with a wonderful EP of not so well known dance floor smashers covering Afro, Disco, New Wave, and 80's Boogie vibes.Kicking things off is the Disco Afro goody that is Check It Out.A mid tempo shake down that ticks all the right boxes with infectious guitar riffs, vocals and bass-lines right through this with a cheeky teaser of an arrangement that's sure to do some damage on them there dance floors!Next up is I See You…. Pure Japanese New Wave badness spliced up with pure love (none of this quantising malarky here). Super quirky vibes with a new wave disco biz and bumps along with aplomb. Make Me is a forgotten 90s RnB tune chopped and given the rework love.. Re-jigged from the original half time track, with some added Moog synth vibes for added oomph.Last up is Old Fashioned, a subbed out garage Boo-gie vibe with sweeter than sweet vocals that hark back to shiny outfits, hair spray and some ever so sexy moves. Lets do this!

BACK IN STOCK !!!!3 reworks from Antipodean DJ and Producer, Frank Booker.First up is the monster reworking of King Sunny Ade's afro biggie Synchro System, originally released in 1983 and taken from the album of the same name.Things are turned into a mid tempo 4/4 house shuffler with a killer groove and dope arrangement. The guitar lines, horn riffs and vocal hooks will have you gripped and holding on for dear life, but the real winner here is the groove that underpins the whole shebang which just glides along and takes you with it for a highly enjoyable ride.......This will be causing all sorts of commotion on dancefloors near you soon, you have been warned !On the flip we have Frank's take on Fela Kuti's Egbe Mi O. Again, a low slung 4/4 house groove sits under this Fela classic....All sorts of Afro goodness are diced up (including the ace Ginger Baker percussion) and lovingly strung back together turning this into an instant mid-tempo house classic..Rounding things off is a cheeky cut n paste track, People Must Jam named after the Sydney based Disco party. It sits somewhere between P-Funk, Roller Skating Jam Disco and House, an achingly infectious filtered groove teases and then teases some more sealing this fine 3 tracker off with a winning smile.

Edits Vol 3

a propos:
The third installment by Dj Rahaan for the Kat label kicks off in fine fettle with a rather large take on Jackey Beavers 'Mr Bump Man'. Originally released on the Seventy-Seven label in 1974, Rahaan takes the madly infectious rhythm section, screaming vocals, guitar licks, driving bass then teases all before him stretching things out into a 9 minute (and 22 seconds to be precise) disco funk epic.On the flip we have Rahaans take on Michael Whites epic jazz-funker 'So Good To Me' followed by 'Be Thankful', his edit of The Intruders 1975 version of 'Be Thankful for what you got'.Rahann Edits Vol 3 back in stock. Get in quick!!
