Disco/Nu-Disco

Joel Martin and Gerry Rooney first surfaced as Velvet Season & The Hearts Of Gold back in 2012 with the first of three salacious 12"s for Lucky Hole Records that really got the refined disco lovers hot under the collar. Following a smattering of remix commissions and a wonderful debut for Resista, Velvet Season & The Hearts Of Gold rear back into view with Witch Doctor Love, a two track 12" of late night voodoo dancefloor material issued by Love Circle. The title track is a chunk of tough and moody house music, all sleazy whispered vocals and trippy electronics; the results are nothing less than intoxicating. Complementing this, "Fish Powder Dance" sees the pair's disco influences come to the fore on a superb fusion of classic strings, vocal harmonies, and joyous basslines over a bumping early '90s house groove.

Despite delivering a smattering of original nu-disco productions over the years, producer Disco Tech is probably most famous for his sneaky but relatively faithful reworks of classic funk, soul and disco cuts.Here he returns to the re-edit field, reworking more sweet soul and funk jams. Waiting On You delivers a slick, floor-friendly take on Al Green, while Devil's Work subtly tweaks a mid tempo funk-soul gem, check the suitably slow and dewy-eyed Take Me As I Am.

New edits series championing the underdogs of disco. Digby's Disco loves those tracks that have a moment of genius nestled alongside a questionable chorus.All taken from a 7 Inch collection accumulated over the years, you'll find no obvious cuts here, rather remakes of charming, imperfect records that otherwise may not see the light of day. New label Radiant Records has enlisted Roadside Edits to deliver a couple of dance floor bombs.We get the ball rolling with a stomping harmonica driven delight, seems the boys like a bit of harmonica, and who could blame them, this one just keeps chugging on, building and building, with the occasional atmospheric breakdown, impossible to sit down to this one…..FACT.On the flip we have a much more polished affair with crazy moog synth lines and trumpet solos galore, another crowd pleaser for sure.

Suave Parisian scalpel-botherer Dimitri From Paris continues to churn out top notch re-edits, slightly altering his famous production persona from label to label. Here, he delivers a second 12" for Razor 'N' Tape under the Dimitri From Brooklyn alias. Like its' predecessor, it features a couple of stone cold bangers. "Right My File" offers a thunderous, housed-up take on a lesser-known cover version of Dan Hartman's grandiose disco smasher "Relight My Fire" - all vocal breakdowns, big builds and big-lunged sing-along moments. As for "I Want Your Back", it re-casts Dimitri as The Reflex, laying down a version of The Jacksons' "I Want You Back" that sounds like it was done from the multi-track parts. It is, of course, dancefloor dynamite.
