Danny Krivit Special Disco Edits Vol 2

a propos:
Legendary NYC DJ / editor Danny Krivit's story in contemporary dance music is a long and storied one. Danny's got to be one of the hardest working men behind the decks right now with an international rep and DJ schedule truly befitting of his time spent making us dance over the last 45 (!) years. It makes perfect sense then, that one of the most seminal Disco labels of all time would call upon Mr. K's sharp editing skills when reappraising some of the jams from their extensive catalogue. TK Disco is the label in question here and they've let Danny loose on a pair of dance-floor burners that all Disco heads will be familiar with.On side-A we have KC & The Sunshine Band's "Let It Go", an oft sampled uptempo funk number from 1975 that pleases both b-boys and disco dancers in equal amounts, widely recognised in the UK as the main sample from DJ Mink's "Hey, hey (Can you relate?)" and Scientists hardcore classic "The Exorcist". Here Danny extends the breaks, looping the funk just right and turning the track into a bonafide DJ weapon, you might even want to nab 2 copies for the extended, extended mix session! (If you're that way inclined!) Essential! On side-B is Gwen McCrae's midtempo heater "Move Me Baby" from 1974, a pre-Disco stepper featuring Gwen's legendary vocals over some sublime Casey and Finch production! Danny's edit is subtle and slightly tougher edged than the original, again extending and rearranging the track respectfully. This one has the dancers firmly planted in it's mind and will sound awesome pumping out of any decent soundsystem! Both edits are masterfully executed, which is stating the obvious considering who's behind them!100% legit re-edits, remastered and released in conjunction with Henry Stone Music / TK Disco - Miami FL.

photo:
a propos:
On this third delivery from AM Records the A-side is reserved for two disco edits by grandmaster Loud-E and new kid on the block Baerlz from Paris. Here's Jonny is a pushy synthetic track build from Claudia Barry's Open the Door and Dis-Le-Mewa is a sweet Bollywood rework, fine-tuned to sound nice on heavy club systems. The flip side contains two more contemporary afro house edits by Afrobot: Kwaito is a subtly pounding percussive South African jam and Angola House Marimba is a fast Kuduro banger with a raw vocal sample. Handstamped artwork by Frank Koedood on the sleeve again.

Look At My Car!

photo:
a propos:
Jex Opolis Presents: In The Nite--"Look At My Car!," a versatile new EP featuring three cosmic cuts from Jex and Ian D. Knight, a St. Louis-based performance artist. Knight features most prominently on the Compass Point-tinged "Look At My Car!," a Paean to the joys of both consumerism and rampant motorism. On the flip, Jexy whips out the Strat for some Chic-inspired licks on the chugging "Guitar Sands," with the Italo-bumping 120 BPMer "Rimini Nites" along for the ride, too.

Danny Krivit Special Disco Edits Vol 1

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Danny Krivit's name has been synonymous with quality, underground dance music for many decades now. His roles as re-edit pioneer, legendary NYC disc jock and all around music obsessive have long been written about. Danny is approaching 45 years as a DJ, almost half a century behind the decks across the world and he shows no sign in stopping anytime soon fortunately! Quite fitting then, that he has opened up his personal, private archive of re-edits for all of us Disco fiends to enjoy and play over and over with this limited, fully licensed 12" release.Any self respecting Disco head should be familiar with the name Voyage. Releasing on Miami's legendary TK Disco imprint as well as numerous other well known labels, Voyage have a dedicated cult following for their percussion heavy euro Disco sounds. Here Mr.K takes on one of their most famous cuts on the A-side - "Lady America" and teases all of the best bits about this uptempo anthem out into the open and straight onto the dancefloor! Breaks are elongated, the right parts are looped in just the right way and the tracks momentum is pushed right through the roof, a Disco bomb indeed! On the B-side we have "Point Zero", a smorgasbord of Afro percussions, chants and rhythms that will literally tear the roof off any club! again DK has tweaked this monster track in all the right places adding his magical editing touch with love and respect, essential stuff and a total dancefloor weapon! Both tracks contained on this 12" have been fully licensed and legitimately reissued in conjunction with Danny Krivit / TK Disco. These edits have been lovingly reworked by Danny with dancers and DJ's alike in mind. A very special release indeed and one that all Disco heads will undoubtedly be excited to see in the shops! Essential release.

Love Somebody/Hazy Shades.. (Danny Krivit Edits)

photo:
a propos:
NYC Disco legend Danny Krivit returns to the editing block on behalf of seminal Miami Disco powerhouse TK Disco. With 45 years in the DJ game under his belt and having played endless gigs all over the world during that time it's safe to say Mr.K knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to the re-edit thing! With unprecedented access to TK's vaults Danny has been turning in some stellar reworkings as of late and the cuts included on this latest instalment keep the quality sky high!Jo Bisso's unique Disco sound has long been popular with fans of underground dance music, his long percussive cuts have always done the business for DJ's who dig deeper for their sounds giving Bisso some cult "hits" under his belt. "Love somebody" was originally released in 1977 and clocked in at a staggering 16 minutes across 2 separate parts on the LP. Step in editing royalty Danny Krivit, who blesses us with yet another essential Disco weapon in the form of his punchier, stripped back edit of this monster cut. As usual with a Mr.K edit all the right parts have been left in, everything's been touched, reworked, extended and tweaked in just the right ways, the only way a master knows how! This one will work any dance-floor and will sound huge on a good system! Trust us, give it a spin! On the flip we have an extended Mr.K edit of Amant's "Hazy shades of love" lifted from their 1978 self titled LP on TK offshoot Marlin. Amant was another production pseudonym of Ray Martinez, the legendary artist, engineer, producer and remixer who worked with numerous artists including Mongo Santamaria, George McCrae, Quincy Jones and many more. The original version of the track clocked in at over 13 minutes in length and again Danny's edit has packed all the hot action into 9 minutes of Disco heat! 100% legit re-edits, remastered and released in conjunction with Henry Stone Music / TK Disco - Miami FL.

Downtown Sounds Classics Volume 4

photo:
a propos:
Dublin based disco imprint Fatty Fatty Phonographics return with the 4th instalment of their 'Downtownsounds Classics' series, this time throwing three stone-cold classics onto one 12, all given the re-edit treatment by in house producers Pablo and Shoey.Voiced by Leroy Burgess, with drums by hip hop legend Marley Marl and production by The Aleem Brothers, 'Release Yourself' was a huge across-the-board anthem in the clubs of NYC on its release in 1984. The lads have superglued elements of both the vocal and dub sides together for an epic end of night take on this beloved classic. The B side features two under appreciated classics from the pen of one Billy Nichols, a man known for his work with West End Records (the Levan mixed 'Give Your Body Up To The Music') and the funky band of brothers that was BT Express. On 'Take Me...' Nichols' hooked up with disco master Patrick Adams for an emotional, string drenched disco belter that has found favour with the likes of Dimitri from Paris, Floating Points and Hunee. While 'Dance If Off' is a wonky proto Acid-Disco trip beloved of Rahaan and Eric Duncan of Rub 'n' Tug. With copies going for over 300 euros, you can do your bank account and your dancefloor a favour here...

Disco Power EP

photo:
a propos:
Aimed straight at the late-night dancefloors, Disco Bits continues its policy of tweaking dancefloor classics for maximum Disco Power! On the A-side:A1 'Disco Power' - first up is a relatively unknown Afro Disco number by Bomp. Here it's beefed up and re-arranged with extra drums, extra breaks, proper bass and proper Disco Power!A2 'I Wanna Thank You' - The Alicia Myers original has always needed a re-arrangement. The Disco Bits boys take a small scalpel and re-imagine this with a proper verse and chorus taking the classic break and turning this track from an uncut diamond into a finely cut gemOn the flipside we have:B1 'Let's Do It Again' - a classy edit of the Nightlife Unlimited favourite, which builds a deep groove from the bassline up, adding layers of keys and vocals and climaxing with the original's hooky chorus.B2 'Tighten It Up' - The BLT original gets a similarly bass-centric treatment, the evolving groove underpinning the refrain of 'drinkin' wine and wastin' time' as the track builds to reveal its familiar verse and chorus towards the end
