Comet announces the third volume of the Afrobeat Makers Series: Nu Guinea - The Tony Allen Experiments.By re-working the original magic drum patterns from the Afrobeat master Tony Allen, Nu Guinea created a compilation of tracks which is charged by a voluminous electronic jazz-Psyche funk imprint.For this release, Comet Records teamed up with Early Sounds Recordings, the berlin label, also home to duo Berliners Nu Guinea.The Naples formed, Berlin-based duo, is a project that arose out of jam sessions, melting synthesizers with instruments, containing a handmade sound that is not aiming for perfection but genuineness. It can be understood as a steadily shaping form, always open for collaborations with other musicians.They've previously collaborated with singer Wayne Snow (fellow berliner artist on Comet) for the vocal edit of Nu-World, also delivered a remix for Wayne Snow’ ʻRosie Epʼ both recently released on Tartelet Records.

Parisian label Escapade launches with a four-track 12″ by Yuri Shulgin. The Russian artist first appeared in 2010 under the Mistanomista moniker on the Italian label Black Sunshine. He later released three records under his real name, first on Anton Zap’s Ethereal Sound, then on Black Wall and finally on Modernista. Yuri’s productions mix jazzy and funky vibes with electronic elements, which inevitably calls to mind the classic Detroit house sound. They have a warm and authentic feeling to them, thanks to his bass, guitar and keys abilities. Poducers such as Vakula have relied on his instrumentalist skills, but on Polyphonic Mind it is his turn to call on other musicians. ‘Nothing In The City’ features his friend Yuri Smirnov on the alto saxophone and kicks off this release on a laid back groove, which becomes more energetic in the second half of the track. Trumpet player Victor Netesov a.k.a. Humsafar joins them on ‘Polyphonic Mind’ for a full jazzy session. On the B side, Shulgin reveals his experimental facet with two jams using synths and delays. ‘Livetrackrecording (Dubby)’ leans into hypnotic territory while ‘#1stereo (Analog Jam)’ rounds up the record with dreamy explorations.

REPRESSMarcel Vogel has decided to celebrate the first five years of his edit-heavy Lumberjacks In Hell imprint in the only way he knows how: by putting together a sumptuous double-pack stuffed with fresh new material. In keeping with the way the label has developed in recent times, the eight tracks blend the boundaries between original productions, illicit remixes and straight re-edits. There's a celebratory, life-affirming feel throughout, from the rubbery bass, D-Train synths and rolling house grooves of Giovanni Damico's "The Break Down", to the bluesy deep house brilliance of Borrowed Identity's "Queens Bridge". Highlights are plentiful elsewhere, too, from the hustlin' electrofunk-meets-disco of Vogel's own "Come On", to the killer synth solos and fuzzy bits of Tim Jules' thrilling "Slap Beat".

When Greg Caz and Deano Sounds teamed up to create The Brasileiro Treasure Box Of Funk & Soul they created a collection of vintage Brazilian music that stretches across the scope of funk, soul, and psychedelic. Co-compiler and Brazilian music aficionado, Greg Caz says: “Without necessarily having a central theme other than funky nuggets from the first half of the 70s, we believe this compilation displays its own particular sense of logic, and that these songs ultimately all sound fantastic together. Regardless of one’s familiarity, or lack thereof, with artists like Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, Os Incríveis, Toni Tornado or Celia, the material on these 45s speaks its own truth and justifies their inclusion here. Many of these were originally available as singles, while others were taken from albums, but all are guaranteed to find their way into many DJ boxes and playlists.”The stunning 45s from this set will now be available for individual sale.
