a propos:
On this third delivery from AM Records the A-side is reserved for two disco edits by grandmaster Loud-E and new kid on the block Baerlz from Paris. Here's Jonny is a pushy synthetic track build from Claudia Barry's Open the Door and Dis-Le-Mewa is a sweet Bollywood rework, fine-tuned to sound nice on heavy club systems. The flip side contains two more contemporary afro house edits by Afrobot: Kwaito is a subtly pounding percussive South African jam and Angola House Marimba is a fast Kuduro banger with a raw vocal sample. Handstamped artwork by Frank Koedood on the sleeve again.

Downtown Sounds Classics Volume 4

photo:
a propos:
Dublin based disco imprint Fatty Fatty Phonographics return with the 4th instalment of their 'Downtownsounds Classics' series, this time throwing three stone-cold classics onto one 12, all given the re-edit treatment by in house producers Pablo and Shoey.Voiced by Leroy Burgess, with drums by hip hop legend Marley Marl and production by The Aleem Brothers, 'Release Yourself' was a huge across-the-board anthem in the clubs of NYC on its release in 1984. The lads have superglued elements of both the vocal and dub sides together for an epic end of night take on this beloved classic. The B side features two under appreciated classics from the pen of one Billy Nichols, a man known for his work with West End Records (the Levan mixed 'Give Your Body Up To The Music') and the funky band of brothers that was BT Express. On 'Take Me...' Nichols' hooked up with disco master Patrick Adams for an emotional, string drenched disco belter that has found favour with the likes of Dimitri from Paris, Floating Points and Hunee. While 'Dance If Off' is a wonky proto Acid-Disco trip beloved of Rahaan and Eric Duncan of Rub 'n' Tug. With copies going for over 300 euros, you can do your bank account and your dancefloor a favour here...

Africa Airways Three

photo:
a propos:
We are pleased to welcome you once more aboard Africa Airways. For your third flight your pilot has informed us of some particularly adverse turbulence en-route. Your trip may be multi-coloured, the winds may be swirling and the clouds may be kaleidoscopic. Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts for your mind-expanding journey through the Afro-Psych skies. Opening up proceedings are Afro National from Sierra Leone. Their progressive psyche-highlife foot-stomper setting down a marker for things to come. Next it is Ifang Bondi who serves up a swirling concoction of powering afro rhythms, fuzz guitar, magic flute, fuzz organ, all underpinned with a driving powerful driving bass line. Next stop is Mali where Sory Bamba serves up the highlight from his 1979 album "Kanaga 78". An early use of psychedelic synthesizer paired cleverly with pulsating bass guitar and harsh choppy guitar. We step forward in time a few years for the distorted guitar chords and over-stacked beats of "Nzango" by African Black. Bunzu Soundz from Ghana close side A with their choppy, percussive, "Zinabu". Messi Jacques & Les Dissoumbas De Libreville open up side B with "Onga Ben Ma Na Mene Mebua", prepare for an onslaught of psych organ, crazed drumming and eeechho vocals to the max. Decca West Africa, Nigerian favorites Ofo and The Black Company grind out the psych factor next with their conga driven fuzz fest "Allah Wakbarr". The Damas Swing Orchestra slow proceedings down with their afro left-field swing micro epic "Odylife". We take a brief detour via Indonesia for the AKA and their dance floor mover "Shake Me". It's a track of two halves. Psychedelic throughout but in the second half things swing fast and funky. We close down with the master Manu Dibango. Proving he can turn his hand to just about any genre of music, the Cameroonian legend delivers his pensive, xylo-driven, riff locked, soundtrack epic "Ceddo" to close out our journey. Welcome to your destination. We hope you enjoyed your trip.

a propos:
Hot Casa Records present Togo Soul 70: Selected Rare Togolese Recordings from 1971 to 1981 .A treasure-trove of rare and unusual recordings mostly recorded in Lomé during the 70’s , a fusion of traditional voodoo chants , raw soul and Afro jazz. Finding these tracks and their rights holders hasn’t become any easier even after few trips all over this west African country bordered by Ghana , Benin & Burkina Faso.We , at Hot Casa Records decided to select thirteen tracks, a snapshot of some hundreds of rare and often forgotten tapes from the most prolific, professional and exciting phase of the country’s recording history included international stars like Bella Bellow ( who even performed to Maracana stadium in Brazil ) to Roger Damawuzan compared as the James Brown from Lomé to forgotten tapes and brilliant songs in Mina, Kabyié and Fon language. Many of the tracks featured here are peppered with innovation and experimentation highlighting how diverse the music scene in Togo was at the time even if the political context influenced their creation.A must have for all music lovers and soundtrack of the documentary Togo Soul 70 directed by Liz Gomis & Dj Julien Lebrun!– Gatefold Vinyl double LP with Two inner sleeves, photos , and biography– Deluxe Cd Digipack with 32 pages linner notes, photos , portraits .

Return And Get It

photo:
a propos:
For its very first release, Sankofa is proud to present you this four tracker : Deep House, Breakbeat, & Disco all in one record. We hope to bring you some high quality releases in the future, ranging from Deep House to Broken beat, Future Jazz and more…Gregory Dub delivers two hoy cuts on A side, starting with ‘Session One’, a Detroit flavor track with a joyful mood followed by Tape, deep and atmospheric which sounds quite simple yet the result is definitely on point for this one. Ufuk K brings his punchy style all along his Untitled track on the other side : this one has proved it’s efficiency concerning the rhythmic…. Floor banger !Last but not least, Spice in Life by Ségur is based on a T-connection sample and manages to flow through in your living room’s speakers, or in a club who knows.

Ethiopian Hit Parade Vol 1

photo:
a propos:
Reissue of the original ethiopian vinyl album / Réedition du vinyle originale éthiopienAfter releasing around fifty 45 rpm singles and his first 33 rpm album (Ethiopian Modern Instrumental Hits AELP 10, re-released by Heavenly Sweetness HL092VL), Amha Esthèté set about compiling his best 45s on a series of now legendary albums (the originals are impossible to find) in 1972.An audacious, funky outlaw, a music lover and an entrepreneur in tune with the baby-boomer generation, young Amha Esthèté (he was only twenty-four when he launched his label) will be remembered as the instigator of a peaceful revolution thick with soul and rock’n’roll. The tracks on this first volume celebrate pioneers of modern Ethiopian groove such as Girma Bèyènè, Seyfu Yohannes, Tèshomè Meteku, Menelik Wèsnatchèw, Mulatu Astatq and Muluken Melesse, alongside tradi-modern singers representing Amhara (Essatu Tèssèmma) and Oromo culture, so rich and so long marginalised (Abbèbè Tèssèmma and Gèmètchu Itana).
