Enemies/Temple Of Disco

photo:
a propos:
With this new release, Parisian Soul unveils a classic from Montana Production reworked with a new keyboard bass line of their own, four movements and an original Deep House ending of their own creation to softly end a mix. Face B revives a scarce track from Hip-Hop Disco with a massive and prodigious beat to set clubbers on fire.

Bulawayo/Harare

photo:
a propos:
An ode to the music of Zimbabwe past and future, representing the country’s two major cities - Bulawayo and Harare. The Bulawayo side sees longtime township legends Bulawayo Kwela meet UK producer Danalogue (the Comet is Coming). Reverb-drenched drums and snatches of Penny whistle back the words of the poet Albert Nyathi for a leagues-deep dub conference. Nomalenga stays true to the Township Kwela style that the group have been playing for over 30 years. The Harare side sees David Tapfuma (longtime collaborator with Stella Chiweshe) deliver an ode to the ghettoes of the capital, accompanied by a solo mbira. Cape Town’s ESA delivers a subtle treatment of the original, drifting the mbira hook into 3am dancefloor territory on a cloud of synths…

(Where Is The) Sunshine

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
For its third release, Chuwanaga goes back in the past with the reissue of “(Where Is The) Sunshine” by Kalima, a rare 7” originally released in 1981 and produced in Baltimore by Afro-American pianist and producer Derrick Amin. Part I on the A side and part II on the B side form a real journey, a beauty in its own style fusing jazz, soul and spirituality as well as political values.Back in the mid-seventies Derrick Amin brought together young musicians from his Afro-American Muslim community in Baltimore. He tells us: “all black music in America is a response to racism and slavery” and “(Where Is The) Sunshine” was their own answer, “a plaintiff query of one immerse in darkness. The darkness of lies, lies that deny the humanity, justice, and equality of people. It’s the impetus of this song”. He adds: “Kalima means “Word” or “Langage” in Arabic. The name was inspired by a quote from Imam W.D. Mohammad (the late Muslim American leader and erstwhile successor to Nation of Islam founder, Elijah Muhammad) who once said: “Words make people””.With its splendid vocal parts (thanks to vocalist Sabreen Shareef), a unique major-to-minor chord progression, subtle synthesizer melodies in the chorus and amazing electric piano and sax solos, it really is a very special release. It’s been discovered in a Motor City Drum Ensemble’s jazz set with Gilles Peterson at the J.A.W. Family Reunion in Berlin back in 2016. Still, one must not forget its yet poetic still political message now shared once again with the world. The question asked by Kalima sadly still remains as relevant in 2018: Where is the sunshine?

Doubout Pou Gadé

photo:
a propos:
Our long awaited reissue of Caribbean Jazz Fusion masterpiece Doubout Pou Gadé by Guadeloupean musician José Manclière is now available. Co-produced by Pierre-Edouard Decimus, José has cooked a really personal & singular record with amazing experimental composition merging Gwo Ka, Jazz-Funk, Biguine with an early electronic synthetic production. This ultra rare album privately distributed in the West Indies has now reached the Holy Grail status amongst collectors. This is definitely a real masterpiece with deep tunes like Syka a fierce synthetic jazz funk hybrid with incredible clavinet, synth and trumpet solos halfway between Placebo and Fabiano Orchestra. Vini Couté E Tann' is the amazing funky biguine we choose to compile on Kouté Jazz with incredible piano and guitar solo respectively by Patrick Jean Marie & Gilbert Coco. Tipi Fanm', is another wicked tune gwo ka percussion laden jazz tune. Features the Who's Who of modern guadeloupean jazz : Patrick Jean-Marie, Ramon Pirmé, Herbert Lewis, Roger & Gilbert Coco, Germain Cédé, Philippe Dambury and even Pierre-Edouard Decimus on bass.Limited to 500 hand numbered copies.Reissued from the original Master Tapes.LISTEN : https://soundcloud.com/diggers-digest/jose-mancliere-doubout-pou-gade-official-limited-reissue-snippets
