Mr. Magic/Talking About My Baby

photo:
a propos:
Jazzman Records released the Holy Grail LP of John Heartsman. I did my own edit of 'Mr. Magic' whilst mastering the LP and spun it since then on Dub but never thought to put it out. It fixes the D.J Kryptonite fade-in so it's straight in on the action and much more dj friendly, not rocket science but it works. Bang it on with 'Talking About My Baby' on the flip and you have a brilliant 45.

If You Feel It Say Yeah

a propos:
Two massive Unreleased 12" inch disco bangers from the obscure florida band Fruit, cut loud and deep like a true disco 12 should be. The Fruit Band's fleeting existence was only recently revealed by the discovery of a few unsold copies of their sole 1978 7" single, Say It, which quickly became a cult showpiece for savvy DJs and collectors, now we finish that untold story with the LP this 12" and a soon to be released 45.Support from Gilles and tons of other in the know Djs, this is a one time deal, so dont sleep.

Get On Down (Medlar Remixes)

photo:
a propos:
''Get on down'' is a heavyweight slice of storming Jamaican Disco-Reggae heat from the legendary studios of Miami's TK Disco empire. King Sporty's version may not have been as well known as Connie Case's electro laden later 1982 version (also produced by Sporty) but the perfect marriage of Disco stylings and Sporty's Jamaican roots meant the original 1979 version was a cult classic in underground deep Disco circles. Over 35 years since ''Get on down'' was released the keepers of the TK Disco vaults have given permission for some of their classics and lesser known gems to be respectfully tweaked by contemporary producers and DJ's who fully understand the lineage of the label and the music contained within. Stepping up and get his hands dirty is none other than London dwelling, WOLF music man - Medlar. A regular face behind the turntables all over the world Medlar has lovingly freaked King Sporty's anthem for the modern dance-floor, extending the right parts in just the oh so right way, dubbing out parts that needed just a smidgen of echo here and there and generally making the track irresistible to DJ's with it's lovely long beat led intro. These are extremely tasteful edits, done with respect and reverence over 2 parts - old school style. Look out for those low flying dubbed out vox and lazer beams too, powerful stuff

Back To Scales To-Night

photo:
a propos:
Wally Badarou released his debut solo album ‘Back To Scales’ in 1980 on Riviera LM Recording System, which was a subsidiary of classic French label Barclay. The album has been long out of print for a very long time and is deemed by connoisseurs as a classic album of it’s time because of it’s fusion with the emerging electronic sounds with Wally’s enchanting melodies. Here made available again through the UK imprint Love Vinyl. 500 copies on the initial pressing

Nigeria Soul Fever - Afro Funk, Disco And Boogie - West African Disco Mayhem!

photo:
a propos:
Soul Jazz Records' new Nigeria Soul Fever is their first release to explore the vast wealth of Nigerian music recorded in the 1970s. The new album comes with introductory sleeve-notes by Bill Brewster (author of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life).Packed-full with Afro-Funk, Disco and Boogie all from Nigeria, this triple album/double CD set brings together a stunning collection of diverse West African sounds. Whilst a small handful of the artists featured (Joni Haastrup, Tee Mac, Christy Essien) have seen the light of day outside Africa, this is essentially a collection of killer tracks by an array of artists completely unknown outside of Nigeria. Artists such as Don Bruce & The Angels, Akin Richards & The Executives, Angela Starr, Jimmy Sherry & The Music Agents. It's no surprise that these records are extremely rare and expensive to buy individually so this album will save you going broke trying to find them. These recordings were made at a time when Nigeria’s trade restrictions banned imported records. Whilst new musical trends (such as American soul, funk, disco etc) entered and influenced the country, the local music scene remained just that - local. Consequently, these recordings remain practically unknown to anyone outside of the country. This album follows on from Soul Jazz Records' 1960s collection Nigeria Freedom Sounds, released last month, and will be followed by the reissue of the incredibly rare and groovy Nigerian 1980 disco boogie funk album Tee Mac's Night Illusion. Triple-album vinyl + download.

Road To Essaouira

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Jazz and Gnawa fusion album recorded in Morocco by Bologna-based Fawda Trio and London duo LV (under their SwamiMillion alias). The album began with a live collaboration between Fawda Trio and SwamiMillion in Bologna in 2013 and culminated with a ten-day recording session in the old city of Essaouira in 2014, featuring local musicians including the acclaimed Gnawa master Maalem Soudani. The album is conceived as a journey to Essaouira and features original compositions by Fawda Trio, who work at the nexus of African-American traditions and Gnawa music with keyboards, percussions, and gimbri, as well as two electronic pieces based on sampling by SwamiMillion and covers of traditional Gnawa and Morrocan pieces.Following the recordings in Morocco, the album was produced and mixed by LV in London and mastered by Ian Carter (Various Productions, Stick In the Wheel, Cosmic Bridge).A unique take on Gnawa that spans jazz, hip-hop, electronic music, and modern classical.

I Know You Care

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
The two glorious 80s boogie tracks written and produced by Roy Ayers are released here on 7" single for the very first time. The two songs were originally released back to back on 12" single for the Uno Melodic label, copies exchanging hands for over £400. These are the only two known recordings by Ethel Beatty, "It's Your Love" much sampled on the hip hop scene.

Just Another Sucker

photo:
a propos:
THE EARLY WORK OF A MUSICAL GENIUS WHICH BECAME A STAPLE OF THE MINNEAPOLIS SOUND FOR DECADES TO COME.Formed in December 1975 by Pepe Willie (the former husband of Prince's cousin), 94 East was the Minneapolis-based funk group with which Prince first came to prominence. Willie was a key player in launching Prince's career, spotting his many talents and quickly enlisting the young maestro into 94 East (named after Interstate 94 in Minneapolis). Alongside Willie, Prince composed one song for them, "Just Another Sucker", newly remastered for this release along with "One Man Jam".These are two of a collection of epic tracks laid down by the band between December 1975 and February 1979, with Prince's nascent musical power to the fore. Remastered versions of the complete recordings are available across three new Charly releases: CD (CHARLYF840), single LP (CHARLYL219 - purple vinyl ) and triple LP box (CHARLYL221) with bonus tracks and instrumental versions. The band disbanded in 1979 when Prince became a star in his own right . And the rest is history. . .
