Jazz and Gnawa fusion album recorded in Morocco by Bologna-based Fawda Trio and London duo LV (under their SwamiMillion alias).The album began with a live collaboration between Fawda Trio and SwamiMillion in Bologna in 2013 and culminated with a ten-day recording session in the old city of Essaouira in 2014, featuring local musicians including the acclaimed Gnawa master Maalem Soudani.
The album is conceived as a journey to Essaouira and features original compositions by Fawda Trio, who work at the nexus of African-American traditions and Gnawa music with keyboards, percussions, and gimbri, as well as two electronic pieces based on sampling by SwamiMillion and covers of traditional Gnawa and Morrocan pieces.
Following the recordings in Morocco, the album was produced and mixed by LV in London and mastered by Ian Carter (Various Productions, Stick In the Wheel, Cosmic Bridge).
